Football Recap: Denver Narrowly Beat Hapless Jets in Defensive Battle
In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a close win over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter scoring strike and specialist Wil Lutz provided the game-winning go-ahead field goal to seal the ugly win.
Defensive Display Seals Contest
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following giving up a two-point play in the third quarter. Remarkably, the Jets managed a mere 82 total net yards throughout the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's short kick with just over five minutes remaining.
Record Struggles for Jets Attack
Despite their horrendous offensive display, the Jets maintained the ball with a chance to drive for a potential victory. But Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it rather than calling on specialist Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled all game, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten passing yards, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," the coach stated after the contest.
